Designed to keep diesel engines running smoothly

Well-travelled engines can be prone to greater wear and higher oil consumption, which can lead to reduced performance and premature failure. Clean engines operate more efficiently. The oil in a clean engine can flow more quickly to where it is needed and is likely to have improved access to surfaces, so that the engine is better protected.

Shell Helix Diesel HX3 K is thicker than ordinary oils, which helps to reduce oil leaks. It also contains 30% more anti-wear chemical than Shell Helix Diesel HX3 to provide the extra protection that well-travelled engines may need.

It also delivers immediate clean-up action and helps to prevent the build-up of soot and sludge in older diesel engines. Locking away harmful dirt and deposits enables Shell Helix Diesel HX3 K to get to the engine surfaces, where it works hard to protect them from wear and helps to prolong engine life.

Shell Helix Diesel HX3 K is formulated for naturally aspirated or turbocharged indirect-injection diesel engines that have been driven more than 100,000 km and do not have blow-by-gas recirculation. It meets industry specifications and has formulations for different fuel types.

Proven cleansing technology

Soot and sludge can build up in diesel engines, which reduces engine performance and prevents the oil from protecting the engine components. In tests at an independent laboratory, Shell Helix Diesel HX3 K oil removed the sludge from a diesel engine. The engine was run with a mineral motor oil for a typical oil-change interval (125 hours), and sludge built up. The oil was then replaced with Shell Helix Diesel HX3 K, and the engine was run again for a similar period.

An immediate clean-up effect was seen with Shell Helix Diesel HX3 K, and, although it contained soot from the previous oil, the Shell Helix Diesel HX3 K was able to reduce the rate of soot deposit build-up by up to five times compared with the original oil.

Protecting older engines

Shell Helix Diesel HX3 K rapidly helps to remove soot deposits from dirty engines. It locks soot away until it is removed with the oil at the next oil change. Oil flows better in a clean engine and can get to important areas such as bearings, valve covers and oil ways. Shell Helix Diesel HX3 K protects these components to help prolong engine life.

Shell Helix tests

To clean and protect an engine, the oil must continue to perform until it is removed when the car is serviced. With some manufacturers recommending longer service intervals, an oil’s ability to stay fit is even more important. Throughout the oil’s life, it has to disperse more and more dirt – keeping it locked away and preventing it from being redeposited in the engine.
