2019 Shell Forum
The Shell Forum is a collaboration platform for Shell Thailand, its partners, and domestic energy industry stakeholders. First held in 2018, the forum aims to inspire insights and innovative ideas from international speakers and trailblazing local thought leaders. The 2019 forum will be an excellent opportunity for Thailand’s energy-use sectors to come together to discuss ways to tackle Thailand’s future energy challenges and help the country thrive during the Energy Transition.
The theme of the 2019 Shell Forum is “Vision 2050: Energy Transition for the Future.” The forum aims to create a dialogue among energy-use sectors in Thailand to think forward to 2050 and the fast pace of transition in energy, mobility, living standards, and technology that are already underway.
By 2050, earth’s population is forecasted to reach 9 billion. At that time, a large number of people from emerging markets, including Thailand, will be middle-class citizens. The resulting higher living standards, mobility demands, and rapid urbanization will all lead to higher energy demands.
Experts agree that the global demand for energy in 2050 is likely to double compared to its year 2000 level1. In order to reach the goals of the Paris Agreement and mitigate climate change, the world is attempting to prevent Earth’s temperature from increasing more than 2 degrees Celsius. The challenge is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and find new energy that is suitable for each country.
