Cleaner engine for less vibration and noise

Shell Helix Diesel HX5 uses special Active Cleansing Technology to help diesel engines to operate efficiently for a smoother and quieter drive. Soot from diesel combustion can increase an oil’s viscosity, which forces the engine to work harder. Shell Helix Diesel HX5 removes soot from surfaces and reduces the rate of further soot build-up. The oil cleans the engine and continues to flow quickly, so that the engine operates efficiently and smoothly. In independent tests, engine vibration was reduced after a Shell Helix Diesel HX5 oil change.

The oil in a clean engine can flow more quickly to where it is needed and has improved access to surfaces, so that the engine is better protected. Shell Helix Diesel HX5 goes on delivering its benefits throughout the oil-change interval.

Shell Helix Diesel HX5 is specifically formulated for naturally aspirated or turbocharged, indirect-injection diesel engines fitted with blow-by-gas recirculation.

Proven to help clean and protect your engine

Soot and sludge can build up in diesel engines, and reduce engine performance and prevent the oil from protecting the engine components. In tests at an independent laboratory, Shell Helix Diesel HX5 oil removed the sludge from a diesel engine. The engine was run with a mineral motor oil for a typical oil-change interval, and sludge built up. The oil was then replaced with Shell Helix Diesel HX5, and the engine was run again for a similar period.

An immediate clean-up effect was seen with Shell Helix Diesel HX5, and, although it contained soot from the previous oil, the Shell Helix Diesel HX5 was able to reduce the rate of soot deposit build-up by up to five times compared with the original oil.

A quieter, smoother engine

Clean engines run more smoothly. Engine vibration tests show that engine vibration was reduced by up to 6.8% after a Shell Helix Diesel HX5 oil change with the oil filled to the same low level. Engine vibration was reduced by up to 7.9% when the engine was topped up to the maximum level with Shell Helix Diesel HX5 compared with when the engine was run with a normal oil at the minimum level, as might be the case before an oil change.

To clean and protect an engine, the oil must continue to perform until it is removed when the car is serviced. With some manufacturers recommending longer service intervals, an oil’s ability to stay fit is even more important. Throughout the oil’s life, it has to disperse more and more dirt – keeping it locked away and preventing it from being redeposited in the engine.
